Pick up any SOL piece and the first thing you notice is the weight. That's not an accident — it's the spec we design around. Most brands won't tell you what their fabric weighs. We put it in the product name.
What GSM actually means
GSM — grams per square meter — is the density of a fabric. A promotional giveaway tee runs 140–160gsm. A standard retail tee sits around 180. SOL tees start at 220gsm and run up to 305. Our Essential Heavyweight Hoodie is 500gsm — dense enough to hold a silhouette on its own.
Higher GSM changes everything about how a garment behaves: it drapes instead of clings, holds a boxy cut instead of collapsing into it, and survives years of washes instead of thinning out by month three.
How to read the number
- 180–230gsm — lightweight to midweight. Soft drape, summer rotation. Our Pure Cotton Tee lives here.
- 250–305gsm — heavyweight tee territory. Structure you can feel. The 305gsm Oversized Long Sleeve wears like armor.
- 350–500gsm — fleece class. From our 350gsm zip hoodies to the 500gsm Essential — outerwear-grade weight.
Why it matters for fit
An oversized cut in light fabric just looks big. The same cut in heavyweight fabric looks intentional — the fabric stands away from the body and holds the line the pattern was drawn with. That's why every boxy piece in the SOL tee collection is built on dense cotton, and why our hoodies start where other brands stop.
Weight is the difference between wearing a shape and just wearing a size. Once you know the number, you can't unsee it.
